It's a "Mad Science" Year

"Mad Science" has been recognized with an honorable mention in the Art Center Renewal’s 2010 International Salon. “Oracle”, charcoal, and  “Like Breath on Glass”, oil, were also recognized as finalists in this year’s competition. For my art to be included alongside these artist's whose work that I have stalked for years is an unbelievable honor!

Later this fall "Mad Science" will be in Direct Art Magazine along with my painting "Enlightenment". That is an annual NY bookazine,  since 1996, that highlights 23 artists each publication. It is always an interesting and edgy group of artists from all media so I am thrilled to be included!

The drawing "Oracle" is still available. "Like Breath on Glass" has sold to a Lebanese collector. How cool is that?

ARC 2009-2010 International Salon Competition

International Artist Magazine-People and Figures Competition

My painting "Like Breath on Glass" is a finalist in the International Artist Magazine's People and Figures Competition-2009 in the Dec/Jan 2010 issue.

I posted this painting on facebook and a few days later there was a beautiful poem in my inbox. The painting had inspired friend and Birmingham AL poet Scott Gordon to write "Transparent Hearts". It is eerily intuitive  and I'm in awe! I've been inspired many times by literature, art and music but this is the first time that I've known one of my paintings to inspire another artist to create. Thank you Scott!

Transparent Hearts

bleak patterns and shade
she watches the lightning
and fears the coming rumble
this perforated horizon
will soon tear itself apart
with or without him, she decides
her fingers trace transparent hearts
on the window pane
they can sense the dancing pressure
and the condensation scramble

between the blur of buses
she sees him across the street
waiting for the light to change
hands in his pockets, eyes on the ground
framed within a tiny heart
he seems small, a universe away
who are his heroes, she wonders
and where does he keep them hidden?

Thanks to my daughter for modeling on a cool winter afternoon at the outdoor Train Museum in Savannah, GA. This painting is currently at Principle Gallery in Alexandria, VA.

Artist's Choice Group Show, Principle Gallery, Alexandria, VA

I have four paintings going to Principle Gallery. The work will be part of the Artist's Choice Group Exhibition which opens Friday, Oct 23, 2009. 

Principle is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, minutes from Washington, DC. Principle Gallery has a wonderful reputation as exhibiting the best of American and European Contemporary Realism, focusing both on emerging and established artists, and I'm thrilled to be showing there! 

The Gallery is in Gilpin House, a 200 year old National Historic Landmark at 208 King Street.

They have chosen "The Ascent", 55x32, from my Building a Life Series. This painting was featured in International Artist Magazine, Aug/Sept Issue.
